Lunar Eclipse 2014

With a clear view of the sky last night (very early this morning actually – April 15, 2014), I took a few shots of the lunar eclipse from my back porch.

These photos were taken with my Nikon D7000 and Sigma 50-500 lens zoomed out to 500mm.The biggest challenge was getting sharp focus.  I used the Live View mode on the camera to magnify the back LCD as much as possible, then also used a Hoodman loupe to look at the LCD at even higher magnification, and finally manually focused the lens. At 500mm, holding the loupe up to the camera and manually focusing at 500mm is difficult with all the vibration and shake from touching the camera. But, I think the shots turned out to be nice.
